Lack of infrastructure affects service delivery
Okhaldhunga, April 14
Lack of physical infrastructure at local levels has adversely hit service delivery in Okhaldhunga.
Almost one year has passed since the civic polls were held. Failure to manage physical infrastructure, however, has dashed people’s hopes to get service at their doorstep.
Many people’s representatives had pledged to provide quick services to the people during the elections, but those promises have turned into mere election publicity.
Champadevi Rural Municipality Chief Nabaraj KC said that lack of building had adversely affected the service delivery at the rural municipality. “Operating the office from the rented building has created inconvenience to service seekers,” KC said.
Molung Rural Municipality’s local Santosh Dahal said that federalism would be a curse for people if government services were to be delivered from contact office at district headquarters.
The government has allocated Rs 10 million for office management for each rural municipality.
It is reported that the allocated budget has been spent in paying office rent and purchasing furniture for the office purpose.
There are eight rural municipalities and one municipality in the district but not a single rural municipality has proper physical infrastructure.
District Coordination Committee Okhaldhunga Chief Jay Bahadur Shrestha said that delay in making laws for the operation of local levels had led to the mismanagement of local levels. Shrestha said that he was working to coordinate with central and provincial governments to make service delivery effective.
