BHAKTAPUR, MARCH 18

The government distributed land ownership certificates to 23 landless squatters at Wards No 6 and 8 of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality in Bhaktapur today.

At a programme organised by Survey Office, Bhaktapur, Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation distributed the certificates to them. On the occasion, Minister Shrestha said around 15,000 landless squatters had been provided with land ownership certificates since the government initiated distributing drive from Mahottari some four months ago.

The government aims to provide land ownership certificate to all the landless squatters within next year. Minister Shrestha said the government was going to make arrangement of employment to the family members of martyrs, Haliyas, Kamlahari and marginalised community making an arrangement of survey training from this week.

She further said Land-related Act was in the final phase for the implementation in order to provide land to landless squatters and to manage unsystematic settlement. Saying the government has been working in favour of people, Bagmati Province Assembly member Pratima Shrestha said the landless of the area got land ownership after years. Secretary Ram Prasad Thapaliya said land ownership certificate distribution would be made effective, saying employees should help make this campaign a success.

Deputy Director General of Survey Department Sushil Dangol informed that land ownership certificate would be distributed to 456 people in Bhaktapur.
