Landslide claims 2 lives
DIPAYAL: Landslide, triggered by incessant rainfall in the past three days, has claimed two lives. Chiranjivi Devkota, DSP, Doti, said that the victims were Pasu Lohar (12) of Phulak of Khatiwada VDC-6 and Gita Devi Bohora of Mirgamandau- 9. More than dozen families have been displaced as hundreds of houses have collapsed due to the landslide. At least 30 goats and 17 cattle have been swept away in Doti’s Lamakedareswor VDC.
Lamakedareswor VDC-6 is worst affected. Dozens of bridges and water mills have been damaged due to floods.
There is an acute scarcity of drinking water in Dipayal and Silgadi.
The DSP said the district’s infrastructure accounted for the major losses. However, the exact figure of the damage is yet to be ascertained. Power service in the hilly
districts of the Far-Western Region has been disrupted after the poles collapsed due to torrential downpour.
Nepal Electricity Authority has said that it would take at least two days to restore power in the affected areas.
