Landslide disrupts electric power supply in eastern hilly districts

BHOJPUR: Electric supply has been halted in Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha and Tehrathum since a landslide destroyed electric pylons last night.

According to Nepal Electricity Authority, Bhojpur Distribution Centre, landslide at Lawar Bote in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality along Dharan-Dhankuta road section of Koshi Highway collapsed three pylons of 33 Kilovolt (kV) transmission line cutting the electric supply to the districts. Electric cables have also been damaged in the disaster.

Meanwhile, a technical team dispatched from Dhankuta has been looking after the maintenance of the damaged section of the transmission line, informed Moim Ansari, Chief at Nepal Electricity Authority, Bhojpur Distribution centre.

"It will take some time to resume the regular supply of electric power to the districts as technical staffs are facing difficulties to carry out the maintenance work properly due to the slopy terrain at the site," Chief Ansari said.

The power cut has also affected the work at various government offices in the districts.
