A landslide triggered by incessant rainfall last night completely damaged a highway along the Banuwa Ghumti area in the southern Rasuwa, a district in Bagmati Province.

District Police Office, Rasuwa, said the landslide caused the road between Majhgaun and Banuwa Ghumti at Uttargaya Rural Municipality that lies in the southern part of the district in the mountain region to cave-in.

The disaster has affected the settlements in the lowland areas. Likewise, it has caused significant damage to crops.

However no human casualty has been reported so far.

Until the filing of this report, preparations were on to resume traffic movement. It is said that vehicular movement at Betrawati, Pahirebesi, and Mailukhu have been totally halted following the landslides.

The disaster on the eve of Janai Purnima festival has affected visitors to Gosaikunda, a famous religious site in the country, where a large number of devotees throng to take a holy dip in the freshwater lake here on Janai Purnima.

The police administration said vehicles available locally would be mobilised to transport Goasaikunda pilgrims.

Saroj Shrestha, a resident of Laharepauwa, said the landslide had occurred along around two kilometres of area stretching from Banuwa Ghumti to the Trishuli River.

It is said that the landslide has affected private houses at Naubise area. Further details of the loss are awaited.
