Landslide-hit face starvation
KALIKOT: The villagers in various VDCs of Kalikot are reeling under hunger after their paddy got swept away in landslides. A local, Prem Sejubal, the sole breadwinner of 15-member family, said his village was looming under acute food shortage. Sejubal said, “Residents of other villages are busy in harvesting paddy while we are staring at our barren fields.”
“Because of landslides, lives of 120 families in the village are in peril,” said Devichandra Acharya, another local. Most of the victims had already left their homes and were residing in their neighbour’s houses in high lands. “Even the village based Nabakiran Primary School had to move to another location,” said Pankha Bahadur Shahi, the Headmaster.
However, life of the displaced has been said to be hit hard. Molpha of Dhaha VDC, Samalgaon of Mugraha VDC and Khaduka of Ramnakot VDC in Kalikot were affected in the lanslides.
