Landslide-hit locals in Bajhang take engineers under control

DHANGADHI: Two engineers recruited for a survey of a road along Chainpur-Dipayal road section in Malumela VDC in Bajhang district were taken under control by locals, on Tuesday.

Engineer Surendra Nepal and Sub-Engineer Prakash Shrish were interrupted by the villagers in Aambagar while returning from their work.

The locals said they resorted to obstruction in the work of engineers as rampant road construction in their village triggered landslides.

Local Matela Police Post later "rescued" the engineers and brought them to the post for security.

The villagers have been demanding compensation and relief from the District Administration Office for the past one month. They have also asked the responsible authorities to shift their settlement to a safer place.

"The landslide has buried our crops, making our life unbearably difficult," said local Bishwo Prakash Joshi.

"Despite pleading for relief time and again, the negligence of the DAO in addressing the problem has led us to take such a step," he added.

He informed that the landslide destroyed eight houses and displaced four families. Total 25 families in Aambagar are at a high risk of landslide.
