Landslides obstruct Beni-Jomsom road

BABIYACHAUR: The Beni-Jomsom road that connects the mountainous district Mustang via Myagdi has been obstructed since Wednesday morning.

The vehicular movement along the 76-kilometre road has been halted due to the blockade caused by landslides at Ghangema of Ghansa-1 on the border between Myagdi and Mustang.

TheĀ  mudslide has also washed away a section of the road, said Indra Singh Sherchan, a hotelier at Dana.

Vehicles heading towards Mustang from Beni have been stranded at Kabhre of Dana while those heading towards Beni from Jomsom are stranded at Ghansa.

Locals and the tourists coming for a visit to Muktinath and Mustang have been affected due to the road obstruction. The police, transport entrepreneurs and locals are working to clear the landslide debris by pressing a Department of Roads' bulldozer into service.

Meanwhile, it has been arranged to operate transportation via alternative road, said transport entrepreneurs.
