Landslide obstructs road in Panch Pokhari

MELAMCHI: A landslide triggered by incessant rainfall has obstructed the road leading to Panch Pokhari, one of the main tourist attractions in Sindhupalchowk district.

Landslides that occurred along the Melamchi-Bhotang road section also obstructed the vehicular movement in Panch Pokhari.

"A fair is going to be held in the famous touristic hub of Langtang Himalayan Region," said Panchpokhari Dupchang Youth Club Chairperson Karan Lama adding "Earlier, the fair was organised on the day of Janai Purnima every year. The five-day event has been deferred to August 3-8 due to solar eclipse this time."

Meanwhile, with the road traffic coming into standstill, the revellers are forced to walk a long distance to reach the fair site.

Panch Pokhari, which is considered to be the source of the Indrawati River, has five separate ponds including Surta, Bhairab, Naag, Saraswoti and Ganeshkunda.

There is always the risk of altitude sickness to the revelers as the Panch Pokhari lies in high hill area.
