Taplejung landslide victims demand identity cards

TAPLEJUNG: The landslide victims in Taplejung district have asked the administration to provide identity cards and other services to them without any delay.

A committee of the landslide victims from different VDCs in the district on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the Chief District Officer at the District Administration Office, Taplejung, seeking identity cards from the administration.

The landslide victims in the district have also expressed dissatisfaction saying that they were not offered anything from the government side.

A total of 59 people lost their lives and dozens of families were displaced from the landslides occurred on June 10 and 11 last year in different VDCs. Most of the displaced are residing under the huts while many other are taking shelter in their relatives’ houses.

The memorandum includes demands for identity cards and effective service delivery from the administration, adding that the relief given in the past was not distributed in a proportional manner.

They have also demanded the local administration probe the alleged irregularities in the distribution of the relief materials.

Receiving the memorandum, Chief District Officer Kamal Bahadur Thapa said that the state was taking initiatives for resettlement of the victims.
