Landslides displace 50 families in Ramechhap

Ramechhap, July 14:

Landslides have displaced 50 families and damaged property worth lakhs of rupees at Kumukasthali VDC of Ramechhap last night.

A landslide swept away three houses at Kumukasthali-1 and two houses at Kumukasthali- 2 and affected the locals of Bamti VDC, a local Hikmat Sunuwar said.

Traffic on most of the roads have been obstructed; crops plantation buried; electricity supply snapped and there is lack of clean drinking water in the incident site, Sunuwar said, adding that the locals are staying outside their houses after incident.

Rain and landslides have stopped now and police has launched rescue operations in Kumukasthali, Bamti and Preeti aeras, Ramechhap District Police Office said.

Meanwhile, in Itahari a landslide following incessant rain has disrupted the Chatara-Barahakshetra road section since yesterday. Landslides at Krishnabhir, 17 Number and other places has affected movement of people here, bus entrepreneur Kishor Tamrakar said.

Landslide at Rawadul VDC in Okhaldhunga swept away three houses today. The details of the landslide have not arrived yet, police said.

A report from Dhangadhi said three persons, who had gone missing due to the landslide at Bhramhatola of Bajura since Friday, have not been found yet.

“Attempts to search three missing people was not successful,” Bajura CDO, Hum Prasad Adhikari said, adding that locals have been searching the missing persons but the police personnel have returned.
