Landslides displace 60 households
DAILEKH: Sixty households in Dailekh’s Rum VDC have so far been displaced as landslides have been continuing unabated following downpour since the beginning of rainy season.
Yesterday alone, 10 families were displaced by a landslip, which occurred after a downpour, in the area. According to VDC secretary Padam Bahadur Khatri, the displaced have been taking shelter at
their relatives’. The disaster also poses threat to the people residing in the adjoining locality.
The displaced are facing difficulties due to the excessive number of people in the houses. Saraswati and Jagannath primary schools have been closed since their buildings collapsed in the nature’s fury, teacher Yamlal Hamal said. Rumkhola Hydro Project has been rendered defunct as its canal was swept away by the flood.
Water supply pipeline has also been destroyed. There is a fear of the outbreak of diseases such as diarrhoea, said health worker Krishna Bahadur Thapa. People of adjoining Meheltoli, Chauratha and Salleri VDCs have stopped using the village as their route fearing other landslips.
District Administration Office has distributed Rs 5,000 each to the 12 displaced families. More relief will be provided in coordination with other organisations, the DAO said.
