16 people confirmed dead in Pyuthan floods, landslides
PYUTHAN: At least 16 people died and over a dozen others have gone missing in floods and landslides in Pyuthan district of western Nepal.
Local administration fears of more casualties as information is yet to come from far-flung villages that are cut off from communication.
Casualties are reported from Phopli, Puja, Khawang, Majhkot and Arkha VDCs.
Six bodies were found in Phopli VDC of the district, according to Keshav Pun, a local resident. The victims include an 11-month-old baby also. According to Pun, 13 people are unaccounted for in Phopli, Pun added.
Two persons, including a 35-year-old woman and her 13-year-old son, died in Puja VDC. Likewise, three persons -- 80-year-old man and his wife of same age and their 16-year-old grandson -- were found dead in Khawang-2. One woman died in Majhkot.
Likewise, three persons of family were buried to death in a landslide in Arkha-6.
CDO of Pyuthan Janak Raj Pant said security personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been sent to Phopli for rescue operation.
Meanwhile, fate of three persons is unknown after a house collapsed in Simalbuta, Bahane of Lung VDC, while a woman was rescued alive from the site. Another woman has gone missing after her house collapsed in the same village.
