Landslides obstruct vehicular movement along Mechi Highway

TAPLEJUNG: Vehicular movement along the Mechi highway has been disrupted following a landslide near the Khokse River at Dokhu area of Phuling Municipality in Taplejung district.

The landslide was triggered by last night's incessant rainfall which has blocked the vehicular movement heading out of Taplejung to different destinations. The road stretch has completely been blanketed with the landslide debris.

Following the natural disaster, another landslide has cascaded down the Dhuseni Hill, according to District Police Office, Taplejung.

The passengers in six buses and a dozen of taxis heading outside the district are left stranded along the highway, said police.

Meanwhile, the Phuling Municipality is set to dispatch excavators to both the locations to remove the debris, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ram Bahadur KC at the District Police Office and added that it would take some time to clear the debris.
