Law and order must for polls: UK envoy

Kathmandu, April 25:

The British Ambassador to Nepal, Dr Andrew Hall, today said maintaining law and order situation, and addressing the issues of the excluded and marginalised groups should be the steps towards constituent assembly elections. “It has to be a free and fair and credible election and for that people should feel secure,” Dr Hall said at a press conference held after the inauguration of the British Visa Application Centre here.

Stating that the achievement of the people’s movement as a first part of the story and not the end, he said that the UK would continue support for Nepal’s peace process and electoral arrangement.

Visa applications for the UK will be accepted only at the new centre from tomorrow. It is being operated by the VSF Global, which is the UK’s visa partner in Nepal. However, the British envoy made it clear that the embassy officials will take final decision on whether to grant or reject anyone the British visa.
