LBRC proposes 10 local units for Kailali
Dhangadi, September 23
Local Bodies Restructuring Commission has proposed 10 local bodies under the new federal setup for Kailali district.
The number of local bodies was finalised after the commission rejected one of the two proposals sent from the district following discussion among local political leaders and stakeholders.
Earlier, the commission had set a ceiling of 10 local bodies in the district and directed the Local Bodies Technical Assistance Committee to hold discussion in this regard with the local stakeholders. “Irrespective of how many proposals are there, we can’t peg the number of local bodies for the district,” said Niraj Shah, a member of the commission.
Earlier, Local Body Technical Assistance Committee in consultation with political leaders and locals had submitted two models to the commission. While one of the models was in line with the recommended number of local bodies, the other had proposed 13 bodies.
As per the 10 bodies model, Chure village assembly that is supposed to comprise Nigali, Khairala, Sahajpur and Mohanyal has been recognised as a special area with Nigali VDC as its centre, while Kailari village assembly and Malwar Municipality have been designated as autonomous regions.
Similarly, while Godawari VDC has been proposed to be merged in the existing Attariya Municipality, the municipality will be renamed as Godawari with its centre in Attariya. The existing Dhangadhi sub-metropolis will be retained and it will take in some wards of Attariya Municipality.
Regarding the existing Chaumala and Masuriya, they will be merged to form the proposed Gauriganga village assembly. Other village assemblies proposed are Kailari, and Bardagoriya.
