Arson attack on 6 Ncell towers by Chand-led Maoists

KATHMANDU: At least six towers of Ncell, a private telecommunication company, witnessed simultaneous arson attacks across Nepal on Saturday.

As some leaflets, published apparently by the Netra Bikram Chand-led Maoist party, were recovered from some incident sites, police suspected that the party made the multiple attacks on the telecom company.

The Nepal Police Headquarters said in its daily news bulletin that towers in Shivasatakshi-2 of Jhapa, Kubhinde Daha-9 of Salyan, Laxmipur-1 of Dang; Ashrang-7 of Gorkha; Hiletaksar of Lamjung and Yangsila-8 of Morang were set on fire.

Equipment worth thousands of rupees were destroyed in the incidents, according to police.

Of late, the Ncell has been drawing flak from various corners for reportedly refusing to pay the capital gains tax it owed to the government when TeliaSonera sold Ncell for Rs 143 billion to Axiata Group.

Local police stations are investigating into respective cases, police said.
