Let-up in agitation

Nepalgunj, August 27

The bandh that has choked Nepalgunj for the past 16 days is likely to be loosened for a couple of days.

haruhat Madhes Joint Struggle Committee, Banke, which has been enforcing the bandh, informed about the two-day let-up in the bandh in view of the approaching festivals of Rakshya Bandhan and Janai Purnima tomorrow and on Saturday.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the committee here, the committee’s spokesperson and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party central member Pashupati Dayal Mishra confirmed that the bandh will be loosened on days of the festival.

“For those days, we have decided to let shops, industries and factories run,” said Mishra, adding that only rickshaws and motorbikes will be allowed on the road.

The committee, however, has pledged to intensify the agitation from Sunday. “In view of the imposition of curfew and prohibitory order, we will focus on villages and we have already started doing so from Narainapur,” Mishra Said.

Another TMDP central member Bijaya Gupta vowed to uphold communal harmony during the agitation. Similarly, leaders have hinted they could allow schools to run during the agitation.
