Likely governors

Kathmandu, January 5

A Nepali Congress source told THT that the government was considering to appoint rights activist Prof Pushkar Bajracharya, CNN Hero Anuradha Koirala, former chief secretary Bimal Koirala and former vice-chairperson of National Planning Commission Jagadish Chandra Pokharel as governors.

The government will have to appoint seven governors in seven provinces. The source said the government could appoint another former chief secretary as governor. The NC source said the government wanted to appoint former justice of the Supreme Court Ram Nagina Singh but it could not do so, as former justices of the SC were eligible for appointment only as members or chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission.

The source said party leaders had reached a conclusion in an office bearers’ meeting that those who contested elections on party tickets or those who lost elections should not be appointed governors.
