Limbuwan leader defends donation, tax collection

Damak, September 9:

Central treasurer of the Federal Limbuwan State Council (FLSC) Gyanuhanginbung claimed that they have been collecting donations and taxes to pave the way for the release of the party’s arrested activists.

“We have been collecting donations and taxes in order to release our cadres, who were arrested on various charges, and to compensate for the damage incurred during several incidents, including the vandalism of the office of construction entrepreneurs’ organisation,” he said.

He said they had been collecting the donations and taxes from traders and vehicles because “we have the right to do so”.

The District Police Office has filed cases against a few Limbuwan activists on the charge of being involved in illegal collection of taxes.

Meanwhile, the Damak Chamber of Commerce and Industries appealed to the FLSC not to collect taxes and donations from businessmen.

The call came at a time when Limbuwan Council cadres have been asking for donations, amounting lakhs of rupees, from Damak-based businessmen.
