BAITADI, AUGUST 18
At least seven local governments in Baitadi district have signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Land Commission.
The local governments signing the MoU with the commission are Purchaudi, Melauli and Patan municipalities and Pancheswor, Shivanath, Sigas and Surnaya rural municipalities. According to the National Law Commission's district Chairperson Sharma Singh Eir, the local governments have signed the memorandum of understanding for collection of data of landless, Dalit and squatters so as to develop well-managed settlements.
With the signing of the agreement, the commission will collect data of unmanaged settlements along with landless squatters in the district.
"The task will gain momentum after both sides enter into an agreement. We will manage unorganised, landless and squatter settlements," he said.
As informed, Dilashaini and Dogadakedar rural municipalities and Dasharathchand Municipality are yet to come to the MoU process.
Chairperson Eir shared that they had urged the other three local governments in the district to sign the MoU.
It is claimed that the problem of landless squatters was not resolved due to lack of common understanding between the commission and local governments.
