Local sports club accused of looting NGO property
Kathmandu, August 28:
An NGO at Kathmandu Metropolitan City -34, Bhimsengola, has accused a local sports club of bullying its officials and looting property.
The Environment and Holistic Development Centre (EHDC) has accused the members of the local King Kong Sports Club of repeatedly looting all medicines meant for the centre, since the last two years.
President of EHDC Ramesh Pyakurel said the club members first looted all the belongings of the EHDC and forced the NGO to vacate the room from where it was operating. “Now they are providing services we used to provide from the same building with the name of our organisation,” he said, adding, “No authority listened to us.”
“We have all the documents but the club receives all the medicines and other support from government bodies and the National Tuberculosis Centre meant for our NGO, and the club members send all patients to us,” he said.
Coordinator of the medical camp run by the EHDC, Dr Pratikchhi Belbase, said a member of the EHDC, who was also the member of the Club, was involved in the looting.
One of the 21 tuberculosis patients, who is reciving DOTS treatment from the EHDC, Durga Bhandari, said the EHDC has been providing medicine regularly despite all problems it has been facing.
President of the Club, Bijaya Bahadur Swanr, could not be contacted for comment despite several attempts.
