Locals build chautaris

At a time when the country is facing political turmoil and destruction of its basic development infrastructure, locals of Phakumba village of Taplejung district are constructing resting places and chautaras for travellers.

Bhakta Banem and Bir Bahadur Banem have constructed both resting places and chautari at Fakumba Village Development Committee (VDC) Ward No 1, near Neruwa river, in memory of their deceased father.

These resting places will benifit people passing through the area and locals of Dhungesanghu, Thinglambu, Fakumba and Sadthakra travelling to and from the district headquarters. A total of Rs 10,000 was spent on its construction. Another chautari at Numlok has also been completed.

At the initiation of teachers of Saraswati Secondary School at Hangpang VDC, a playground has also been built. According the to principal of Saraswati Secondary School, Harka Yakso, the construction work that began on May 11, was completed in the third week of the month. Students of the school from grade 6 to 10 and teachers were collectively involved in the work.

Following the call of Nepal Red Cross Society district office, the school also organised a cleaning programme from May 15-20. All the students were involved in the campaign by spreading words on cleaning houses, buildings and using toilets.
