Locals elated by drinking water supply in Dhading's remote community
DHADING: Locals residents of Pidaguan in Gajuri Rural Municipality-5 of Dhading district are no more facing trouble due to shortage of drinking water.
The residents had been facing difficulties for long since there were no water sources in the locality.
People are elated as each and every household has been supplied with drinking water through taps.
Prayas Nepal Dhading, a non-government and non-profitable social organisation, with the financial assistance from Oxfam made the drinking water supply available to 154 households through the same number of taps, and to Gajuri Pida Secondary School through a tap. Two additional taps have been provided to two community halls.
The rural municipality's chairperson Rajendra Bikram Basnet said the community was provided with drinking water in coordination with Prayas Nepal.
Prayas Nepal's Chief Executive Officer Damodar Aryal said the supply was possible with the investment of a total Rs 16,405,421. The social organisation invested Rs 10,067,302, Gajuri Rural Municipality invested Rs 1,465,000 while local consumers spent Rs 4,873,119 and provided labour for the drinking water project, CEO Aryal informed.
With the completion of the drinking water project, local consumers expressed their joy over the management amid the third or final phase of the public hearing programme organised by Pidagaun Water Supply and Sanitation Consumers' Committee on Tuesday.
Local women said that they were compelled to fetch water from far away places carrying water pot on doko, a traditional bamboo basket until a few days ago.
With the completion of the project, locals of Pidagaun, Dovane, Jogibisauna, Kurlechaur, Dandatole, Bhimsensthan among other settlements are now facilitated with drinking water supply.
Local Parvati Sunar expressed her pleasure, "People have now gained easy access to clean drinking water in comparison to the previous state when they were compelled to drink murky water from rivers or rivulets which are far from the settlement and it used to take a long time to bring water owing to the geographical constraints".
