Locals foil Maoists’ bid to remove
Mahendranagar, December 25:
The Maoists’ attempt to displace re-established police posts failed today when locals of Kanchanpur district rose up in protest against the Maoists cadres who had gone to remove the Area Police Posts in Krishnapur and Jhalari VDCs.
When the Maoist cadres threw out office furniture and other goods from the Krishnapur APO, locals obstructed traffic and closed the bazaar.
Kanchanpur District Police Office (DPO) chief, SP Chhabi Lal Bamjade Joshi, said: “A police team led by inspector Dipak Regmi has been mobilised in that area and the police personnel are staying in the APO.”
Police personnel have started staying in Jhalari APO as usual. Locals helped to collect the things thrown out by the Maoist cadres.
In a statement yesterday, Maoist Kanchanpur secretary Anu had threatened to remove the re-established police posts, claiming that it was against the agreement reached between them and the government.
SP Chhabi Lal said the police posts were re-established following an all-party meeting on November 24.
Meanwhile, the Maoists’ attempt to remove another police post across Mahakali river failed due to locals’ protest. Maoist cadres have given an ultimatum to remove an APO situated in Kanchanpur within five days.
