Locals padlock water office

ITAHARI: Panchdhare Youth Club members and locals of Itahari-4 today padlocked Itahari Small Urban Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumer Corporation (IUDWSCC) office indefinitely accusing the Corporation of erratic water supply .

More than 100 locals, who gathered in front of the Corporation office, chanted slogans demanding uninterrupted and regular water supply to the consumers.

Surya Rai, chairman of Panchdhare Youth Club, said the Corporation had failed to supply water to the locals for the past few weeks.

He claimed that some IUDWSCC employees were selling water to Dharan instead of supplying water to Itahari people. IUDWSCC employees have admitted that they sold water to Dharan from Corporation's Itahari reservoir.

Rai said Itahari consumers were forced to resort to padlocking for their repeated requests fell in deaf ears.

The protesting consumers warned of stern action if the Corporation failed to pay heed to their demands that it stop supplying water to Dharan and resume regular water supply to Itahari consumers.

Chief of IUDWSCC, Hari Katwal admitted that the Corporation was supplying about 20,000 litres of water to Dharan residents.

"The problem occurred after one of our water pumps broke down," Katwal said.
