Locals stage sit-in, demand arrest of rape accused

Irate locals of Sukhipur Municipality, Siraha, today staged a sit-in in front of Area Police Office, Patari, demanding that those accused in the rape of a woman in the municipality two weeks ago be arrested.

A group of four persons had allegedly raped a woman of the municipality.

Women rights activists also took part in the sit-in protest. They said although two of the accused had been arrested, police had yet to arrest the remaining two  culprits.

Samasul Miya, Isharaful Miya, Salamad Miya and Jakir Miya have been accused of raping the 35 year-old woman in her house on November 27. The victim’s husband is a migrant worker and i currently works in Qatar.

The locals had taken Samasul and Isharaful under control and handed them over to the police the next day, while two others are still at large.

Meanwhile, Inspector Bhusan Yadav at Area Police Office, Patari, said a police team had been deployed to arrest the absconding culprits. Police said the absconding culprits would be arrested soon.
