KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 30

The two chairpersons of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Prakash Chandra Lohani and Pashupati SJB Rana, have extended their support to Rajendra Lingden to lead the party in the upcoming general convention.

Both Lohani and Rana have announced they will not contest for the post of party chairman. With the new turn in RPP's politics, Chairman of the party Kamal Thapa will have to compete with Lingden, who decided to contest for the post of party chair a few days ago.

Lohani, calling for a press meet today, appealed to Thapa to act wisely and allow young leaders to lead the party. "I request both the party presidents to play the role of guardian in the party and give chance to new leaders," Lohani said in the statement.

Earlier, Thapa had asked Lingden, a member of House of Representatives from Jhapa, to wait for four more years to compete for the post of party chair.

However, with the recent developments in the party, Thapa is likely to face a challenge in the upcoming general convention scheduled from December 2 to 4 in the capital. Meanwhile, it is known that leaders said to be close to Thapa have joined Lingden's side for the convention.

The party has already conducted district conventions in all 77 districts of the country. The pro-monarchy party has been advocating constitutional monarchy and Hindu nation.
