JANAKPUR, JUNE 22

Wheat production in Madhes Province has declined significantly this year due to adverse weather conditions, pests and lack of quality seeds.

The province produced 543,160 metric tonnes of wheat this year, down from 731,000 metric tonnes last year, according to the Agriculture Directorate in Naktaijhij, Dhanusha.

Productivity also fell sharply to 1.8 metric tonnes per hectare compared to 3.37 metric tonnes last year.

Officials attributed the decline to irregular rainfall, disease outbreaks and inadequate irrigation facilities across the region.
