KATHMANDU: The commission formed to probe complaints of usury received 24,000 complaints from across the country, mostly from Tarai districts between April 30 to May 28.
Bara district topped the list with 3,322 complaints. A total of 18,356 complaints were lodged in eight Madhes districts. West-Nawalparasi received 1,889 complaints. The Commission stated in its progress report that Madhes province and west Nawalparasi appeared to be the hub for usury activities.
A total of 120 complaints were lodged in Kapilvastu, 123 in Surkhet, 191 in Bardiya, 199 in Morang district, 246 in Kailali, 361 in Dang, and 495 in Sunsari.
A total of 478 complaints were lodged in Kathmandu district and 550 in Rupandehi.
There are 20,000 usury victims in Nawalparasi alone.
