‘Madhesi alliance to work with forces supportive of Madhes issues’

Janakpurdham, December 20

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal Chairperson Rajendra Mahato today claimed that they could  cooperate only with forces that were interested in addressing Madhes issues.

Speaking to journalists in Janakpurdham of Dhanushatoday, RJP-N Chair Mahato said his party had the people’s mandate through their votes to address the concerns of the Madhes and launch developmental projects. “Either we will support or protest in the House on the basis of the issues of the Madhes. The main concern of the region is to ensure people’s rights in the constitution through its amendment,” said Mahato.

He said fulfilment of Madhesis’ demands was more important than government formation. Mahato stressed that other forces also required to respect the mandate of Madhes folks. He was of the opinion that the National Assembly should be formed under single transferable electoral system. “The president needed to endorse the ordinance sent by the government. The president doesn’t have right to reject the ordinance forwarded by the government,” he said.

He said the Madhes alliance comprising Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal would form the provincial government. “As per the people’s mandate, the RJP-N and FSF-N, will form the provincial government in Province 2,” said Mahato.

However, he said they were yet to discuss government formation. Mahato said, “Discussions are under way regarding unification of RJP-N and FSF-N. There is strong pressure from the people for unification.”
