Madhesi Front says govt not serious, announces fresh protests
KATHMANDU: The United Democratic Madhesi Front on Saturday commented that the government was not yet serious to resolve the ongoing unrest in the Tarai region through talks, and announced fresh protest programmes.
Issuing a press statement today, the Front said it continued the ongoing protest programmes besides launching some new demonstration activities.
The statement signed by Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal's Upendra Yadav, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party's Mahantha Thakur, Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party's Mahendra Raya Yadav and Sadbhawana Party's Laxman Lal Kanra, however, is silent about if its programmes to obstruct the Nepal-India border points continued.
According to the new protest programmes, the Front would demonstrate mass rallies and protest assemblies in all district headquarters on January 12; exhibit paintings, photos and documentaries about the government suppression on protests, in all district headquarters and major cities on January 14; stage lathi rallies and assemblies in district headquarters on January 16; torch rallies and assemblies in district headquarters on January 18; condolence assemblies on January 19; and protest assemblies in various villages and towns on January 21.
Meanwhile, the Front added that it could not accept the Constitution Amendment Bill currently being discussed at the Parliament.
"Nepali Congress and the government jointly have brought the Constitution Amendment Bill at the Parliament in order to create an illusion among people," the press statement read, "This Bill cannot be acceptable for the Morcha as it, if endorsed without any change, cannot address issues raised by Madhesis, indigenous communities, Tharus, Muslims and Dalits."
The Front reiterated that the government had been failing to present itself with clear views on demands of the agitating parties.
