Madhesi MPs to stall House work today

Kathmandu, May 15:

While Madhesi leaders today warned they would disrupt parliament session tomorrow, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Mahesh Acharya termed it “unfortunate.” However, a Maoist leader said his party will not disrupt the House.

“We will continue to disrupt parliament unless the government seriously comes up with a concrete initiative,” NC-D central leader Bijay Kumar Gachhedhar said.

Equal enthusiasm to disrupt the House session tomorrow came from Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi) leader Bharat Bimal Yadav. The leaders were addressing a programme at the Reporters’ Club.

Gachhedhar and Yadav accused the government of not taking the issue seriously.

CPN-Maoist leader CP Gajurel said his party would not disrupt proceedings in the House. “We will not disrupt parliament sessions. Other parties must also be serious in allowing to function the Parliament smoothly,” he said.

Acharya said the disruption of the Parliament was “unfortunate” and suggested the parties concerned rather make the House more “vibrant.”

Bharat Mohan Adhikari of the CPN-UML, however, warned that the country is heading towards an extreme polarisation where “democratrisation will be weakened.” This, he said, is an effort of regressive elements.

‘House business to resume after 3 days’

BIRATNAGAR: Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula on Tuesday said parliament would conduct its business smoothly after three days.

Talking to journalists after a meeting with PM Gririja Prasad Koirala here, Sitaula said: “An eight-party meeting to be held in Kathmandu will decide on the issue and the parliament will resume business without any disruptions.” He said that disruptions in the House were delaying the CA polls.

Sitaula also said that security chiefs of the eastern region have been directed to build peace and security in the region.

He added that 100 police posts in the region would be re-established soon. — HNS
