SIMIKOT, AUGUST 11

Agitating students of Madhyapaschim University central campus yesterday vandalised a vehicle of its Vice-chancellor Nanda Bahadur Singh. Irate students vandalised the stationary vehicle while VC Singh was participating at a programme organised by Madhyapaschim University School of Management yesterday.

Madhyapaschim University's Registrar Narayan Prasad Poudel said that the VC's vehicle was vandalised twice. He further said stones were also pelted while the interaction was under way at MUSOM and an axe was also thrown at the parked vehicle. The windows of the vehicle were smashed.

Some students were injured in a clash with police while VC Singh was returning after attending the interaction 'Challenges of Higher Education and Resolving Measures of University's Challenges in the Present Context'.

Among the injured were coordinator of Madhyapaschim University ANNISU (Revolutionary) Topendra Poudel, ex-chairperson of Free Students' Union Jhakka Bahadur Shahi and Tikaram Dhakal.

Four students' union/organisations have launched a struggle in the university demanding operation of examinations through online medium, increment in scholarship quota, investigation into the statement made public by the university's office-bearers earlier and fixing date for FSU election.

Students have staged relay sit-in for the past few days.

Issuing a statement, the MU has demanded action against the unruly people who had vandalised the vehicle of the VC. On the contrary, protesting students organisations have demanded action against the university's office-bearers suppressing the struggle of the students. Agitating students said that they did not throw any axe at the VC's vehicle and also accused the VC of mobilising anarchic groups to suppress the peaceful protest of students.
