ROLPA: A Magar museum has been opened in Rolpa district for the preservation of Magar culture.

Some Magar community leaders set up the museum to preserve their indigenous culture from what they called the growing encroachment of modernisation, which is pushing it on the verge of disappearance.

According to president of the museum Bhim Bahadur Magar, the museum has been set up for handing over the knowledge of Magar culture to the new generation by protecting the unique art, culture, traditions and costumes of the Magar people.

Various cultural items such as utensils, articles, clothes, ornaments, musical instruments reflecting the lifestyle of the Magar community are on display, some of which that are produced by the Magar people can be purchased by visitors.

Magar people comprise 44 per cent of the total population of Rolpa district.
