Mahants stresses need for conserving historical heritage
Mahanta of Janaki Mandir Ramtapeswore Das released a book titled "Digo Bikash Ra Staniya Samudaya" published by Janahit Samrakshan Manch, Kathmandu.
Speaking on the occasion Mahanta Das said that the concerned authorities should give proper attention to protect the historical temples, ponds and other archaeological heritage of Janakpurdham.
Addressing the programme Prof Dr Ram Prasad Chaudhary, one of the editors of the book and a board member of Pro-public, stated that the book can be considered of multiple uility s because it includes not only the way to control pollution of the ponds but also deals with the infrastructure for the promotion of the tourism in the area. Briefing about the book he said that it is divided into parts among which the first one consists of capacity building of local community for sustainable development where as the second part contains conservation and sustainable utilization of cultural wetland.
The articles available in the book including 17 papers in total has covered wide area of environment management such as impact of environment and its assessment, natural resources management and restoration of Chimdi lake situated in Sunsari district, said Chaudhary. Further to this the book is also consisted of the papers about the interaction programme previously held at Puwakhola of Ilam, Chimdi of Sunsari, Janakpurdham and Jiri of Dolkha
General secretary of Janahit Samrakshan Manch Prakash Mani Sharma said attention should be given to maintaining cleanliness in Janakpur which has a lot of historical importance, said he. Member of the CPN-UML Janakpur zonal committee Shital Jha regretted that the ponds of historical importance are being encroached upon by the people.
Chief of Janakpur Guthi Sansthan Jaya Prasad Regmi said that even though it was the responsibility of the Guthi Sansthan to protect the land of the historical and religious temples and ponds, the Sansthan had not authority to take action against the encroachers.
Chairman of the Janakpur area development council Narendra Mishra, from the chair, said that the number of tourists visiting Janakpur would increase if the religious ponds were kept clean.
