Mahara promises galore for journalists

Dang, October 16:

Minister for Information and Communications Krishna Bahadur Mahara today said the Working Journalists’ Act and the report, prepared by the committee formed to fix minimum salary of journalists, would be implemented soon.

Speaking to reporters in Dang district after inspecting the under- construction building of the district chapter of the Federation Nepali Journalists (FNJ), the minister said, “Efforts are underway to amend communication related acts and regulations and make the government’s advertisement policy scientific and proportional.”

“The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) has been working for the implementation of the Working Journalists’ Act and the committee’s report formed to determine minimum salary of the working journalists,” said he. “Recommendations of the report would be incorporated into rules and regulations within one and half months.”

Only print media are getting the government’s advertisements, he said. “The gap between radio and other media channels is widening.”

He said, “The MoIC is mulling over ending such gap by forming a policy and the regulation on the registration of FM radios has been amended to facilitate the renewal process.”
