Mahara warns of revolt

Biratnagar, December 11:

Maoist spokesperson and coordinator of the CPN-Maoist talks team Krishna Bahadur Mahara today warned of a resumed revolt if the political situation does not progress.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Biratnagar chapter of the FNJ here, Mahara said: “If political change is not ascertained, the Maoists will be forced to revolt again.”

Mahara blamed the government for delaying in holding election to the constituent assembly. “The election to the constituent assembly will not be held by mid-June 2007 if the date for the same is not announced within Mangsir,” said Mahara. Alleging that a conspiracy is afoot to foil the institutionalisation of political aims, Mahara warned the Maoists would act strongly against any such conspiracy.

“The truce call will not be withdrawn even if the Maoists hit streets against the conspiracies with their new strategies,” he said. “While it seems that the peace agreement is complete, political change is yet to come about,” he said, adding: “Political agreement is the most important issue now.”

Disagreeing with PM Girija Prasad Koirala’s stand on not promulgating an interim statute until the management of arms is done, he said: “Conspiracy is being hatched. People should be alert.”
