NRNA gets new leadership following Kathmandu Unity Convention
KATHMANDU, MAY 5
Mahesh Kumar Shrestha has been elected President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) through its Unity Convention held in Kathmandu.
The convention, which took place at Hotel Hyatt on Saturday and Sunday under the leadership of former President Dr Shesh Ghale, also elected six vice presidents: Sunil Kumar Sah, Buddhi Sagar Subedi, Khagendra Neupane, Lok Prasad Dahal, Manoj Kumar Shrestha (Gorkhali), and Bishwas Deep Limbu (Tigela). Junu Gurung was elected as Vice President (Women), and Baburam (B.R.) Lama as General Secretary.
Other elected officials include Secretaries Chintamani Sapkota, Tank Prasad Gaire, and Tilak Prasad Gaire; Treasurer Thakur Prasad Dhungana; Women's Secretary Devaki Khatri Gurung; Deputy Treasurer Krishna Prasad Pokhrel; Women Coordinator Rashmi Thapa; and Youth Coordinator Bhimsen Thapa.
Regional coordinators elected were Dr. Balram Shrestha (Asia-Pacific), Prem Bahadur Gurung (Europe), Ramesh Shrestha (Middle East), Diluram Parajuli (North and South America), and Irsad Ahmad (Oceania).
Deputy regional coordinators include Madhav Pokhrel and Bhim Bahadur Purja (Asia-Pacific), Sunil Kumar Ghimire and Shree Krishna Bhattarai (Middle East), Bishwaraj Bastola and Narbahadur Tandon Chhetri (North and South America), and Ram Prasad Kandel and Pratap Rana (Oceania).
While, the faction led by Badri KC boycotted the convention, citing questions over its legitimacy, Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba asserted that the event, organized under the leadership of Dr Shesh Ghale, was officially recognized as per the Supreme Court's directive.
