Maithali women seek role in CA

Kathmandu, April 13:

Maithil women today demanded their proportionate representation in the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

Chitralekha Yadav, deputy speaker of the parliament, said Madhesi women are marginalised for being women and being Madhesis. “Present situation demands political justice for them. Time has come to ensure their representation in the CA and make their voices heard at the policy level,” she said at an interaction organised by the Maithil Women’s Society (MWS) on the representation of the Madhesi women in the CA polls. The society demanded representation of the Madhesi women in the CA on the basis of population.

Political leaders are still insensitive towards issues of the Madhes, Yadav said, noting that the government had not yet declared those who died during the Madhes Andolan martyrs.

“An inter-party movement is must to ensure a proportionate representation of women in the CA,” Sashi Shrestha of the Janamorcha Nepal said.

She held the entire social and political structure responsible for the present condition of women and said the structure should be rebuilt from the very foundation.
