The Makawanpur District Administration Office has imposed restrictions on night-time vehicular movement along the Kanti Highway and the Bhaise-Bhimfedi-Deurali-Kulekhani road section due to the heightened risk of floods and landslides amid forecasts of heavy rainfall.
Administrative Officer Santosh Subedi said the decision was taken following a special weather bulletin issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, which forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds between September 25 and 27.
According to the administration, vehicles travelling from Chaughada towards Kathmandu via the Kanti Highway will be permitted to operate only between 5am and 5pm starting September 25 and until further notice.
Similarly, vehicles using the Bhaise-Bhimfedi-Deurali-Kulekhani route will be allowed to travel from Chaukittol in Hetauda towards Kathmandu during the same hours.
For vehicles heading towards Hetauda, departures will be permitted from Humane in Phakhel and Ramchandra Bhanjyang in Sisneri between 5am and 5pm.
The administration said all vehicular movement on both routes will be completely halted after 7pm.
Authorities have urged travellers, transport operators and drivers to use the roads only during the permitted hours and remain alert, citing the increased risk of landslides, flooding and road obstructions during the forecast rain period.
The restrictions come as meteorologists warn that a strengthening Bay of Bengal weather system, combined with active monsoon conditions, could bring widespread rainfall and potentially hazardous conditions across several parts of Nepal later this week.
