Man arrested for carrying out acid-attack on his wife

CHITWAN: A man, who carried out an acid attack on his wife, and his three accomplices have been arrested from Chitwan on Wednesday, police said.

According to police, Bibek Gurung (24) of Ramghat in Pokhara Metropolis-10 of Kaski district attacked his wife, Dolma Rumba (20) of Bharatpur Metropolis-24 in Chitwan district, with acid yesterday evening.

Within an hour of the incident, police cordoned off Chitwan and arrested victim's husband Bibek Gurung along with his accomplices -- Birendraman Gurung (45), Biren Gurung (46) both hailing from Pokhara-1 and Hom Thapa (39) of Pokhara-10 in Kaski district -- from Lion's Chowk in Narayangadh of Chitwan district.

Bibek said he attacked his wife Dolma with acid after an internal dispute between them and confessed to his crime, police said.

According to the Chitwan District Police Office Spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Durgaraj Regmi, Bibek attacked his wife with acid while she was staying at her parental home, in Chitwan.

The victim, who sustained burn injuries on her face and head, is currently undergoing treatment at the Bharatpur-based Chitwan Medical College. "She is out of danger," DSP Regmi informed.

Earlier, Bibek Gurung along with his friends had boarded a tourist bus from Pokhara to Chitwan before carrying out the horrific acid attack on his wife, Regmi shared.

The victim lodged an FIR (First Information Report) against her husband Bibek Gurung and accomplice Biren Gurung.

Police, subsequently, presented them before the court today itself and remanded them in custody for further investigation, DSP Regmi added.
