Man attempts to murder wife
Gaighat, January 20
A man attempted to kill his wife by burning her alive at Tapeswori VDC in Udayapur today.
Vegetable trader Ghanshyam Chaudhary from Tapeswori VDC-1 sprinkled petrol on his 35-year-old wife Nainadevi Chaudhary and set it on fire, according to District Police Office Udayapur DSP Om Rana.
Rana said Ghanshyam had tried to burn his wife alive after a minor dispute broke out between them. The dispute surfaced after he refused to give Rs 3,000 that his wife had asked for household expenditure.
The neighbours came to rescue Nainadevi as she cried for help while being burnt. Police reached the incident site and took the
victim to hospital after locals reported about the incident.
Nainadevi has sustained burn injuries in the lower part of her body. She is being treated at a nursing home in Fattepur, Saptari. Doctors at the nursing home said Naninadevi’s condition was critical.
Meanwhile, police have arrested Ghanshyam from his home and launched an investigation into the incident.
Taking advantage of the Tarai agitation, Ghanshaym was involved in black-marketing petroleum products.
Police also seized ten litres of petrol from his home. Women rights activists today condemned the incident. They have sought stern action against the perpetrator.
