Man held for wife’s murder, three of his kin also arrested

Police arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of a woman in Hariaya Tole of Gadhimai Municipality, Rautahat, today morning.
Sunita Kumari Thakur, 28, of Hariya Tole was murdered and her body was cremated in haste. Police have nabbed Sunita’s husband Sarmod Thakur, 30, Sarmod’s uncle Rameswor Thakur, 60, and his sisters Nibha Kumari, 19, and Sima Kumari Thakur, 18.
Rautahat DSP Nabin Karki said a police team from Area Police Office, Garuda, had reached the local ghat after being tipped off Sunita had been murdered over a domestic dispute and preparations were under way to cremate the body. Sunita was murdered by her husband, his uncle and sisters.
Sunita’s family had allegedly called an ambulance and taken her towards a hospital to make people believe they were taking her to hospital after she had some health issues. However, the ambulance never reached any hospital, it returned mid-way saying she had died on the way to hospital.
DSP Karki said police had held four persons from the ghat. Locals told Sunita’s maternal family she had died while being rushed to the hospital. But her maternal family suspected Sunita might have been murdered by her husband and other family members and reported the matter to the police immediately.
