Jajarkot, November 18

A man in Tribeni Rural Municipality murdered his wife and son in West Rukum last night.

Local Satta Bahadur Budha, 49, killed his wife Indra Kala Budha, 42, and son Swyam Prakash Budha, 11, at midnight on Saturday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sumit Khadka at District Police Office, West Rukum, said Satta Bahadur shot his wife to death with a traditional gun and killed his son with a khukuri. Deputy Superintendent of Police Khadka said police held Satta Bahadur with the help of locals after the incident.

Satta Bahadur also tried to commit suicide after killing Indra Kala and Swyam Prakash, and had injured himself, police said. Police took him to Salle District Hospital where he is receiving treatment under police surveillance.

DSP Khadka informed that the bodies were kept in the district hospital for post-mortem.

Police said the incident might have taken place due to family discord and excessive consumption of alcohol. The locals said Satta Bahadur was suffering from mental illness. According to them, other family members managed to escape Satta’s attack because they were living in a different house.
