Man kills wife, attempts suicide

BIRATNAGAR: A man tried to kill himself after murdering his wife in Urlabari Municipality, Morang, yesterday evening. Keshav Thapa Magar, 55, of Urlabari, hacked his wife Devi Maya, 50, to death with a knife at around 6:45 pm yesterday. After attacking his wife, Keshav had thrust the knife into his stomach to kill himself. Devi Maya, who was critically injured in the attack, died while being rushed to hospital. Keshav is being treated at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. The couple used to operate a vegetable shop in Urlabari. According to locals, a dispute had broken out between the couple in the day. Police said they would interrogate Keshav to establish why he had stabbed his wife.

Lightning claims two

HETAUDA: A man died when a lightning bolt struck him at Handikhola VDC in Makawanpur on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Ram Bahadur Rai, 45, of the VDC. The incident occurred while Rai was trying to connect the fan to the plug in his house around 7 in the evening. Critically injured Rai died while being rushed to a hospital in Hetauda, said police. Similarly, a teenage boy was killed after a lightning bolt struck him at his house in Chainpur VDC, Sankhuwasabha, on Friday evening. The deceased has been identified as Ganga Bahadur Alemagar’s 14-year-old son Mohan Singh.

Man killed in clash

RAUTAHAT: A man was killed after over a minor dispute at Laxmipur Dostiya VDC in Rautahat on Friday night. A dispute between Sukhal Mansuri and his neighbour Mukthar Mansuri had erupted over construction of toilet wall at around 8pm. Irate Mukthar’s group had hit Sukhal with a bamboo stick. Critically injured Sukhal died while undergoing treatment at Chandranigahapur Hospital, said Area Police Office, Katahariya. Police have taken Mukthar’s wife Sajan Nesa, 31, his sons Jamalu, 13, Kamalu, 11, and Mokadam, 10, under control for their involvement in the clash. SI Tribhuvan Sah of the Area Police Office informed that Mukthar and his brother Jamirul were at large after the incident.

Two found dead

KHOTANG: A teacher and a technician have been found dead in two different places in Khotang in the past two days. District Police Office Khotang said that Padam Gurung, 37, a teacher at Jalapa Higher Secondary School, Jalapa, and Jalram Rai, a technician at Agriculture Service Centre, were found dead. Gurung was found dead at a hotel room in Nunthala. He was returning to Diktel after appearing in Teachers’ Service Commission exam in Biratnagar. Lakhdhan Rai, who had slept in the same room, reported to police after he found Gurung dead. Police have taken Lakhdhan under control for investigation. In another incident, Jalram had stayed at Khanidanda while on the way home from Diktel. He was found dead on the roadside near Khanidanda on Friday morning. SI Yadav Gautam said that the bodies were sent to district hospital for post-mortem.
