BHOJPUR: An elderly person died when a man opened fire on him mistaking him for a monkey in Maunabudhuk VDC, Dhankuta, on Thursday evening. Dhan Bahadur Rai, 66, of Mainabudhuk died on the spot after Nandalal Rai mistook him for a monkey on a mango tree in his garden and opened fire. A police team deployed at the incident site has detained Nandalal.

Mushroom sickens 5

RUKUM: Five persons were taken ill after they ate wild mushroom in Musikot of Rukum on Friday morning. Binita Pun, 24, her three-year-old daughter Salina, her brother Dipak Pun, 22, four-year-old Sujan Budha and Gita Thapa, 18, fell ill after they ate wild mushroom on Friday morning. All of them, except Gita, have been taken to Bheri Zonal Hospital, Nepalgunj, after their treatment was not possible at the District Hospital. According to Dr Surya Lama, Gita’s condition was normal.

42 deaths in last fiscal

DAMAULI: As many as 42 persons were killed in road accidents in Tahanun in the last fiscal year. Thirty-four males and eight females had died in as many as 139 road accidents. The injured toll from these accidents stand at 341. Of the injured, 166 were critically hurt, while 175 sustained minor injury, according to District Traffic Police, Tanahun. The previous fiscal had registered death toll of 41 while 125 were injured. Police said negligence on the part of driver, bad roads and speeding were the main reasons behind the accidents. District Traffic Police Office in-charge Munendra Thapa said that Rs 211,000 was collected in revenue from drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.

UML PB meet today

KATHMANDU : The politburo meeting of the ruling CPN-UML has been called for Saturday to discuss issues pertaining to constitution writing and others. UML's politburo meeting scheduled for Saturday is being held after receiving people's feedback on the preliminary draft of the new constitution. According to Pradip Gyawali, Secretary of UML Central Secretariat, discussions will be held on constitution-writing process and  organisational procedures of the party among others.
