Man, who was chained for over 12 years, finally freed
CHITWAN: A man, who had been chained along an ox in the cowshed for more than 12 years at Ramchok of Chiti VDC-8 in Lamjung district, has been rescued from the confinement.
Makan Singh Nepali (40), who had been chained at the age of 28, had been living in the cowshed since then.
Nepali had been suffering from some mental disorder since he was 12. The kin had tried to treat him, but to no avail.
He was rescued by two brothers - Keshav and Premprabha Adhikari - of Bharatpur in coordination with the Manav Sewa Ashram, an NGO in Hetaunda.
He was handed over to the Ashram on Thursday.
The duo came to know about the plight of Nepali from the neighbour when they had gone to Lamjung for a visit.
According to Sanjeev Nepali, his younger brother, the family had kept him at the cowshed by the Dordi River, a kilometre away from the house.
The victim, however, was handed to Ramji Adhikari, Coordinator of the Ashram.
Subsequently, his mother Subu has expressed a hope that one day her son would return home cured.
