Manang, July 7

Manang has been declared fully literate district.

The district was formally declared literate amid a function yesterday after  Informal Education Committee Chairperson and Local Development Officer  Ramu Raj Kadariya put his signature in the announcement paper.

“The literacy per cent in the district was 74.9 in 2011/12, while it is 96.9 in 2017/18,” said District Education Office’s Section Officer Khula Nath Gautam.

“All the residents of the district ranging from 15 years to 60 are literate”, informed District Education Officer Rama Kanta Sharma.

LDO Kadariya also lauded the contribution of the Community Study Centre, chairpersons of all four rural municipalities, representatives of non-governmental organisations, teachers, students and all the stakeholders for their contribution.

The government had been launching campaign related to literacy to ensure access to education to all by 2015 under National Literacy Campaign in Manang for the past seven years. A rally was taken out following the declaration.
