Lamjung, June 28

Supply of goods and other daily essentials has been obstructed in the remote Manang district after a Bailey bridge over Myardi khola that connects Lamjung with Manang was swept away by a massive flood on June 23.

The Besisahar-Chame road section has been blocked ever since the flood washed away the bridge.

The incident has disrupted the supply of daily essentials to Manang for the past six days. This has hit the locals hard in the district.

Besisahar-Chame Road Division Office, Damauli, Engineer Thakur Prasad Bhandari said resumption of transport services on the road section was less likely to happen any time soon. Bailey bridge designer Uddahav Rana Magar, who hails from Kathmandu had monitored the bridge last Wednesday.

According to Bhandari, it will take three weeks to repair the bridge and resume vehicular movement temporarily. The repair work will start after few days.

Local Asmita Gurung, 23 from Manang complained that the road was not back-topped even though it was constructed some 23 years ago. “The road is in a sorry state,” she said.

The Nepali Army had opened the track and handed it over to the Road Division Office three years ago.
